Yes, it's officially dead.
No updates or replies from developers for months...
The simplest basic features were developed for years, and still not implemented.
Ive had no replies from my support requests from last week. Hmm annoying as a nice bit of software..
Are there alternatives?
You can try Adobe Bridge, but Kyno unsupported is still better than Bridge--for a while anyway.
I feel ripped off and would like to have my money back. It's always the same. When small companies make really good software, they are bought by bigger ones who then sub-load the software to use only some of the developments in their very different projects. And who is the loser. The customer who bought the software and is left alone with a dead piece of software without an alternative. It is finally time to blow up capitalism.

I'm glad I've signed up here and found this post!
I'm currently evaluating KYNO, and I like it a lot (18 trial days left!)
I'm coming from various media management wares; ACDSee Ultimate, iMatch, Grass Valley Mync etc., and short of digging in and developing my own WPF (.NET Windows UI) based application, I was really starting to feel KYNO has a good amount of what I was looking to achieve for myself w/a custom program.
I was here to request they support the LoupeDeck / Stream Deck functionality, by perhaps exposing more application states, and shortcut keys, so KYNO could be deeply accessed, and automated by those hardware devices.
Now to see that after the acquisition, things appear to be going down hill?
I've already had to give up Adobe AfterFX; lost my beloved Fireworks which Adobe killed off, and finally Substance Painter and Designer, again bought out by Adobe and turned subscription only.
This saddens me to a great degree.

This seriously sucks, I really liked this software, despite its flaws. Anybody have an alternative?
Guys - Kyno isnt dead. I've contacted the company and had several replies. They are really slow to reply (1-2 week).. sometimes I had to resend messages, but they did reply. Essentially Id say its safe to still use this software..
support@lesspain.software
also there is a guy on Youtube.. American older man film maker - forget his name and cant be assed to login and find out ..[Larry Jordan - I just looked up especially for you] but I left a comment saying Kyno havent replies to me..he has 2-3 videos it was in one of them.. he contacted them personally and said 'dont worry, they have been taken over, teething problems but they are alive and well'
So guys.. Id say it was prob safe to use and a fair likelihood company will continue.. its so far been the best software I found.
Safe

I'm hopeful actually, maybe some new direction and creative management can steer this ship into more productive waters.. As for the previous crew; they were too close to their baby, and were stuffy about how to work on it. I've been a Kyno user since very early beta testing, and I gave them good solid and regular feedback right up till launch, and got a paltry discount on my first year of subscription, after being told repeatedly that Lesspain were vehemently against subscription based sales models.
Hopefully Signiant have a robust & community driven vision for Kyno, as it's been supported by community from the start. I want to continue using it, but I also want to feel as though there is some momentum with its innovation, or at the very least, maintained as is but regularly updated for relevancy.
I'm hopeful as well, since Kyno has a good majority of features I wanted in a program for managing my videos and photos.
However for now, considering the price of entry, especially without further evidence of life, I'll wait to see what going to happen here moving forward.
In my desperate searches for similar, I ran across an open source package called DigiKam, which I've been testing on and off.
Ultimately, I received a very timely upgrade email for a program that I purchased back in 2010, that has surprisingly, considerable DAM functionality compared to back when I purchased the earlier version.
The upgrade saved me over $200 vs buying into Kyno - I had to giggle to myself about the timing of it all!
I'm actually reluctant to give out the name here due to worries this "conglomerate" would buy them out as well!

So I'm actually good for now
Until I actually hear from Lesspain themselves and see some kind of action on their part to get this program to work, I consider this program completely abandoned. As it stands, I literally can't use it because of a glitch with the RTX 30 series graphics cards, and they really screwed me over cause I really need the features Kyno has right now. Months of TOTAL radio silence other than "lol we just got paid!" is completely unacceptable
This sucks
I haven't seen any activity from Kyno on anything in quite a while...
